To Boldly Go

A recent post by the National Air and Space Museum about this week marking the debut of “Star Trek” (The Original Series) in 1966 reminded me of my visits to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC where I was able to photograph the actual model of the U.S.S. Enterprise that was used in the original TV series. The photos are from my second visit to see the model a couple of years ago, which is quite large, eleven feet long. The first time I saw the model was in college when the Museum had it hanging high up in a hallway in what seemed like an afterthought of an exhibit just to have it on display somewhere. Now it sits in a glass case that allows for excellent viewing from most angles but the placement of it is rather bizarre. One finds it incongruously placed squarely in the middle of…

Is China’s Basic Education a Success?

Chinese educators and education experts believe China has extraordinary basic education. This education gives millions of students solid knowledge and basic skills, which is the point why our education is good. The experts think the only failure of Chinese education is just at the university. They criticize the bad higher education system cause the lack of creation in China. It is apparent that Chinese experts are illogical again: Innovation is a matter of human rather than a vacant framework of system; since the students from basic education are so “extraordinary”, why they choose to sleep play computer games to spend their college life but have no idea about how to use the knowledge?

Do Chinese Love China?

For this question, the answer is easy: No. Perhaps you were shocked at the time seeing my answer because you may think Chinese are really united and they often refute the criticize from other countries, especially western countries. But I am a native Chinese who can observe the comments and acts of common Chinese. So, unfortunately, I have to say it is just a mirage that Chinese are patriot.  Continue reading

Debate on Strength and System

My country, China, is now considering of a tough but necessary reform on the country’s political system. It is common admitted that China must transform to a new political system as long as the country wants to make a everlasting progress in future. The deeds, which are about how countries with modern social institution beat and eliminated countries carrying on moldering political, are not rare on Chinese middle school history textbooks. Though the change of China is a common accepted prospect, the debate about whether advanced system can give us a stronger country has never stopped since later Qing Dynasty, even up to now. The focus is: why savage people could often beat civilized people in human’s history? Continue reading

Solar Roadways

PROJECT LOVE

As we progress in ways to develop sustainable energy, this cool idea has been surfacing across the internet lately.

Solar roadways.

It even sounds cool! So these solar panels are a hexagonal grid of intelligent plates that connect together to form panels of different orientations. In this case, roadways. They also are made to be used as driveways, parking lots, game courts, and sidewalks.

They have LEDs built into them that can be programmed to create parking spots road lanes, game types, and even alerts.

These panels are pressure sensitive and can warn you of an obstruction ahead! That way you can avoid collisions with animals, fallen rocks, and the like.

These not only do better for the environment, pay for themselves in a short time span, offer water irrigation, heat up snowy roads, extreme weight and long term year capable, customizable, house data networks, but they SAVE LIVES.

Hope all countries can achieve what Sweden is doing within 200 years.

Sweden Zero Waste

Sweden is moving toward zero waste by making it possible to recycle 99% of all household waste. Since 1975, the country has moved from being able to recycle only 38% of its household waste to turning the entire country’s household waste into energy.

By imposing new regulation for recycling stations to be located within 300 meters from any residential area, citizens are taking part by collecting and separating their recyclable waste in their homes and drop off other items to nearby recycling stations.

Today, there are 32 incineration plants in Sweden which burn more than 2 million tonnes of waste to produce heat for over 800,000 households and generate electricity for 250,000 homes. Since 1985, 99% of heavy metal emissions have been reduced despite the fact that Sweden emits three times more waste today than in 1985.

‘We are trying to “move up the refuse ladder”, as we say, from…

New Education Reform Will Fail Again

China Education Department published the new rule of college entrance and examination. And Shanghai and Zhejiang province is going to be experimental region of new system. But unfortunately, no matter how Chinese government does acts on education system, all reforms are sure to be failures. Because the government is still unaware of the substantial of education system and what is going wrong. I’d love to analyse why Chinese can’t make progress on their education via commenting on the new policies on education system.
